Senior Research Associate

Site: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Department: Molecular Biology

Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the department head, the Senior Research Associate, works independently and in collaboration with other team members to:

  • Design, create and clone antibody/recombinant protein DNA constructs
  • Clone phage display antibody libraries
  • Plan and execute phage display panning experiments for antibody discovery
  • Generate amplicon libraries for NGS analysis
  • Troubleshoot methods and support the creation of SOPs as required
  • Clearly communicate results in written reports and oral presentations
  • Actively foster an environment of effective and collaborative working relationships within and across teams, and provide technical leadership in molecular biology methods
  • Participate in team meetings to assist in the coordination of project and departmental activities

Essential qualifications:

  • M.Sc. in a relevant field (such as immunology, genetics, cell biology, or molecular biology) with at least 10 years of experience in an industry environment, including 5 years in a molecular biology role.
  • Experience with the design and execution of molecular biology techniques such as:

    • Cloning (restriction enzyme/TOPO/Gibson/Golden Gate Assembly)
    • PCR and RT-PCR
    • DNA (mini/midi/maxiprep) and RNA extraction
    • Sanger sequencing analysis
  • Independent technical troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions, and to perform repetitive tasks
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to work in a collaborative, fast-faced environment while planning and meeting timelines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document all work clearly and completely; proficient with Microsoft Office suite

Assets:

  • Experience with antibody discovery methods such as antibody library construction/optimization, phage display and biopanning are a plus
  • Experience in protein and cell-based assays including ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting, and cell-binding assay by FACS is a plus
